Disney+ Announces Plans to Feature User-Made TikTok Content, Just Days After Emmy-Nominated Wonder Man Cancellation

Disney+ has announced a first-of-its-kind partnership with TikTok to bring user-created content to its streaming platform. The collaboration will feature Disney-themed TikTok videos as “Verts”—short-form vertical videos—in a dedicated section on Disney Plus’s mobile app. Participating creators will gain access to Disney’s extensive library of films and series to produce content featuring characters and stories from across the company’s brands, including Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, and FX.

As part of the deal, Disney will curate which TikTok videos appear on the platform, selectively highlighting content that aligns with company standards. The partnership reflects Disney+’s ongoing effort to compete with social media by integrating short-form content directly into its streaming experience, recognizing that consumers increasingly consume entertainment on platforms like TikTok.

The announcement arrives just days after Disney cancelled the Emmy-nominated series Wonder Man, underscoring the company’s shift in content strategy. The timing highlights Disney’s dual approach: consolidating creator content while simultaneously pruning traditional series. As streaming services face mounting pressure from social media platforms, many are exploring partnerships designed to engage subscribers more deeply, foster community participation, and expose audiences to diverse content formats beyond traditional long-form television and film.
