Policymakers across Europe told to do more to support local game industry

The German Games Industry Association (Game) has issued a call to action urging policymakers across Germany and Europe to create frameworks that support video game companies. The association argues that the video game production capabilities of Germany and Europe remain significantly weaker than international standards, a deficiency attributed primarily to inadequate regulatory and governmental support.

According to the association, the games industry possesses “enormous strength and dynamics” that can only be fully realized under internationally competitive conditions. These conditions must enable long-term planning and strategic growth for developers and publishers. The association’s statement emphasizes that the productive capacity of the games sector is “indispensable” and remains underutilized.

The call highlights a critical gap between Europe’s potential and its current position in the global games industry. Without ambitious governmental strategies and supportive regulatory frameworks, the region risks falling further behind international competitors. The association is advocating for policymakers to recognize the games industry as a key economic sector worthy of strategic investment and policy support.
