“We take your feedback to heart” - Game Freak promises to improve Beast of Reincarnation following a divisive launch

Beast of Reincarnation, Game Freak’s first original action RPG in years, launched on August 4th, 2026 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S to a mixed reception. The game, which features a girl protagonist and dog companion in a post-apocalyptic Japan setting, has not met the success typically expected from the long-time Pokémon developer.

The initial response has been tepid, with the game receiving a “Mixed” rating on Steam following over 1,600 reviews. IGN’s review scored the title 6/10, reflecting broader player concerns about various technical and gameplay issues.

In response to player feedback, Game Freak announced on social media that they are planning a series of continuous updates to address these concerns. The first major patch is scheduled for release within a week and will target several key areas that frustrated players. These improvements include fixes to the camera system, which many players found too close to the protagonist during battles, making combat unnecessarily difficult. The patch will also increase text size to more readable levels—a common complaint that reviewers highlighted. Additionally, Game Freak is making Performance mode the default graphical setting over Cinematic mode on consoles and plans story pacing improvements to enhance narrative flow.

The patch will also include general bug fixes across the game. Game Freak’s commitment extends beyond this initial update, with the studio pledging “continuous updates” as an ongoing initiative to improve the player experience.
