Halo On PS5 Is Off To A Slow Start, Expert Says

Halo: Campaign Evolved, a remake of the 2001 original Combat Evolved, has launched on PlayStation for the first time, but the release is underperforming on PS5. According to sales analyst Rhys Elliott, the game sold approximately 351,000 copies on the Sony console during July and 452,000 total to date, generating nearly $28 million in revenue.

The PS5 sales pale in comparison to its performance on other platforms, with 212,000 units sold on Steam and approximately 900,000 combined sales across Xbox consoles and PC. Industry analysts point to the game’s $50 price point as a significant barrier to adoption, noting that charging that amount for essentially a graphical enhancement of a 24-year-old game proved a difficult sell to modern consumers.

The launch is also overshadowed by Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops PS5 ports, which despite being barebones digital re-releases with no improvements over their PS3 versions, sold a combined 11.2 million copies on the PS Store in July alone—more than every other game on the platform’s sales chart combined. This stark contrast highlights the challenges facing premium-priced remakes in today’s competitive market.
