Minecraft Is Coming To Switch 2 In October, With An Upgrade Path For Switch Owners

Mojang has announced that Minecraft will launch natively on the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, 2026. While the game has been playable on Switch 2 through backwards compatibility since the console’s launch, this official release introduces a new “Vibrant Visuals” graphics upgrade that takes full advantage of Nintendo’s latest hardware.

The Vibrant Visuals enhancement, which will be the default visual experience for Switch 2, includes improved lighting, shadows, volumetric fog, enhanced water reflections, and directional lighting that modernize Minecraft’s appearance while preserving its iconic blocky aesthetic. The native version has been optimized specifically for Switch 2’s capabilities.

In a player-friendly move, Nintendo Switch owners will not need to repurchase the game. Mojang is offering an upgrade path for existing Switch owners, though complete details have not yet been fully shared. The Super Mario Mash-Up pack will also receive an update to support the new Vibrant Visuals graphics options, enhancing the Mario-themed world with custom music and skins.

While Vibrant Visuals represents a significant visual upgrade, not all gameplay modes will support the enhanced graphics. Split-screen multiplayer and certain worlds or content types will not feature the new visual enhancements. Minecraft continues to be one of the most accessible games globally, available on more than 20 platforms across multiple console generations and devices.
