PC Motherboard Prices Set To Rise Later This Year
PC motherboard prices are expected to surge this year due to increased demand from artificial intelligence and data center infrastructure. According to Chinese industry publication Board Channels, printed circuit board (PCB) prices alone are projected to increase by at least 50% throughout 2026.
The price hikes extend beyond just the PCBs themselves. Key components used in motherboard manufacturing—including surface-mount capacitors, copper, and supporting control chips—have all experienced significant cost increases. These rising input costs are squeezing major motherboard manufacturers, with companies like ASUS, MSI, and Gigabyte all reporting margin pressure.
The underlying driver is the ongoing surge in demand for AI infrastructure and high-performance data center hardware. As enterprises race to deploy large language models and other AI systems, the demand for computing infrastructure has skyrocketed, creating supply chain bottlenecks and price increases that ripple through the entire electronics ecosystem.
For PC gamers and enthusiasts, this means higher costs when building or upgrading systems later in 2026.
