Xbox Version Of PlayStation Platinum Trophy Teased For Later This Year
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has announced that Microsoft is working on an Xbox equivalent to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy system, with a planned release later in 2026. The confirmation comes in response to years of requests from Xbox fans seeking parity with Sony’s achievement recognition system.
Platinum Trophies on PlayStation are awarded to players who unlock all other trophies in a single game, serving as a badge of honor for completionists. Xbox currently lacks an equivalent reward for 100% achievement completion, despite having pioneered the achievement concept itself when the Xbox 360 launched in 2005.
Interestingly, PlayStation’s trophy system was actually developed as a response to Xbox’s achievements. The PS3 introduced trophies in 2008 with Super Stardust HD, essentially mirroring Xbox’s formula. However, PlayStation subsequently added the Platinum Trophy tier as a special completion recognition, creating a feature Xbox users have requested for many years.
The announcement aligns with Xbox’s broader push to improve its achievement ecosystem. The platform recently rolled out updates including voice chat support in game captures, improved achievement sorting by game name and completion percentage, and enhanced ways to browse and track progress.
While specific details about how Xbox’s Platinum-style achievement will function remain unclear, the confirmation signals that Microsoft is finally addressing one of the community’s most consistent feedback items.
