Baldur’s Gate 3 third anniversary stats reveal most killed NPCs, most used weapons, and Dark Urge players aren’t the most murderous playing the game

Three years after its release, Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios has published comprehensive statistics revealing player behavior across the game. The data includes information about the most-killed story NPCs and findings about how different character origins play the game.

According to Larian’s data, Zevlor—the argumentative tiefling from the Druid’s Grove—tops the list of most-killed story NPCs. However, the most striking finding involves a counterintuitive pattern: non-Dark Urge players are statistically more murderous than their Dark Urge counterparts, despite the Dark Urge origin being explicitly themed around violence.

This paradox is exemplified by Alfira, the tiefling bard. The data shows that more non-Dark Urge players have managed to murder Alfira than Dark Urge players have—a remarkable statistic given that Dark Urge players have no choice in the matter. If Alfira stays in the player’s camp overnight as a Dark Urge character, her death is inevitable and scripted into the origin’s narrative. The fact that non-Dark Urge players voluntarily kill Alfira at higher rates than those compelled to do so highlights the diverse approaches players take to moral decisions.

The statistics offer a fascinating window into player behavior and agency in Baldur’s Gate 3, revealing that the game’s moral flexibility leads to unexpected patterns regardless of character origin.
