A generous demo, a big expansion, and “pricing measures”: What Capcom is doing to get Monster Hunter Wilds’ sales to “surpass” Monster Hunter World
Capcom is pursuing an ambitious strategy to boost Monster Hunter Wilds’ sales, with the goal of eventually making it the publisher’s best-selling game of all time—surpassing Monster Hunter: World.
Despite a record-breaking launch in February 2025, Monster Hunter Wilds experienced a significant sales decline during its second quarter. The game’s performance was hampered by technical optimization issues and creative decisions that drew criticism from fans. By the end of 2025, Wilds was being outsold by earlier entries in the franchise, including Monster Hunter Rise.
In response, Capcom has announced plans to drive sales growth through multiple initiatives. The company reports that sales have already begun to improve following performance fixes implemented in early 2026. Additional strategies include offering a generous demo, releasing a major expansion, and implementing “pricing measures” to attract players.
Capcom’s stated ambition is to drive Wilds’ total unit sales “beyond those of Monster Hunter: World over the medium to long term.” While the company recently revealed that Monster Hunter: World achieved significant sales milestones, Wilds will need substantial momentum to reach that level. The performance fixes and content additions represent a turning point for the game, which had faced a rocky post-launch period despite its initially strong debut.
