The Best Ghost Recon Just Got A Huge Update, And A New Game Is Coming

Ubisoft is celebrating Ghost Recon’s 25th anniversary with a massive free update to Ghost Recon Wildlands, the series’ most acclaimed entry. The “Last Rites” update arrived on August 6 and brings significant technical improvements to current-generation consoles.

On PS5 and Xbox Series X, the update enables native 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, alongside quality-of-life enhancements including 3D audio support, DualSense haptic feedback, and faster SSD loading times. The upgrade is free for all existing players.

Beyond technical enhancements, the update adds a new mission set in a darker, more oppressive Bolivia—the fictional setting where Wildlands takes place. Hundreds of new cosmetic items are now available for free, marking the first time many in-game items have been offered without cost. The update also restores Predator content that Ubisoft had removed in 2020.

The game is available as a free trial on PS5 through August 10 and is included with PS Plus Extra. Meanwhile, Ubisoft has discounted Ghost Recon Wildlands on Xbox to coincide with the next-gen upgrade release.

The 25th anniversary celebration also extends to other Ghost Recon titles, with reports indicating a new Ghost Recon game is in development. The update underscores Ubisoft’s continued investment in Wildlands, which has maintained a dedicated player base since its 2017 release despite newer entries in the franchise.
