Halo Co-Creator Calls Out Remake For Pandering To “New Era Of Players With 0% Attention Span,” But He Really Loves The Upgrades Overall
Marcus Lehto, co-creator of the Halo franchise and designer of Master Chief, has shared his impressions of Halo: Campaign Evolved, the latest remake in the series. Speaking on social media, Lehto indicated he is roughly halfway through the game on Heroic difficulty and is largely satisfied with the experience.
Despite the provocative framing of his comments about the game allegedly pandering to players with short attention spans, Lehto’s overall assessment is decidedly positive. He praised several key improvements in the remake, highlighting the enhanced movement mechanics, cinematics, visuals, and particularly the lighting design. “Overall, I really love the upgrades: movement, cinematics, visuals. Damn, the lighting is brilliant,” he stated, adding that while he does have some minor complaints, they pale in comparison to the enjoyment the game delivers.
Lehto selected Heroic difficulty for his playthrough, noting that this was the difficulty level that the original Bungie team employed when testing levels for their “fun factor.” He contrasted this with Legendary difficulty, which he described as being intended only for players “who love punishment,” suggesting a hierarchy of challenge levels designed for different player types and preferences.
The designer’s largely favorable verdict on Campaign Evolved indicates that the remake has successfully balanced modernization with the core appeal that made the original Halo series successful, at least in the eyes of one of its original architects.
