Microsoft quietly deletes 32 GB RAM recommendation, which I’m sure has nothing to do with it bringing back 8 GB laptops

Microsoft has quietly removed support documentation that recommended 32 GB of RAM for gaming PC setups. The deleted page, titled “How to optimize your gaming PC setup,” had previously stated that 16 GB of memory is “plenty for most gamers,” while 32 GB is considered “ideal for serious players who run the most demanding titles or use heavy mods.” The link to the support document now redirects users to the Windows Learning Center instead.

The deletion was discovered by Windows Latest this week. Additionally, a separate Microsoft support document from May that declared 32 GB to be the “no-worries” upgrade has also been removed from public access.

The timing of these deletions coincides with Microsoft’s renewed focus on lower-capacity devices, particularly with the reintroduction of 8 GB RAM configurations in its laptop lineup. While Microsoft has not officially explained the rationale behind removing these recommendations, the move raises questions about how the company’s hardware strategy influences its official PC specification guidance.
