Netflix has reportedly canceled David Fincher’s American Squid Game spinoff series, shelving a project that had been in development since 2024. The series, titled “Squid Game: America,” was set to be written by Dennis Kenny, creator of the 2013 British thriller Utopia, with acclaimed director David Fincher attached to helm the project.
The series faced slow development, with little public progress announced in the months following the initial reports. The project was formally listed on the Film and Television Industry Alliance website in November 2025, with production slated to begin in February 2026 in Los Angeles. However, Netflix has now opted to cancel the series before filming could commence.
