Pokémon Pokopia’s free 2.0 update is here, and it’s making a splash with new underwater features and improvements

Pokémon Pokopia has launched its free 2.0 major update alongside the first paid expansion, Bubbly Basin, bringing substantial underwater content to the life-simulation game. The free update introduces diving mechanics, allowing players to explore new oceanic biomes and build houses beneath the waves. Quality-of-life improvements accompany the expansion, including bulk item movement between storage and inventory, the ability to delete items from containers, and various tool enhancements.

The Bubbly Basin DLC expansion introduces an underwater world centered on rebuilding Cerulean City, featuring a dedicated Pokédex populated primarily with water-type Pokémon and a new Scrub ability that transforms muddy pearls into shiny pearls—a crucial resource for progression. New mechanics include crafting smoothies using an unlocked blender, solving treasure maps scattered throughout the basin, and constructing habitats tailored to the underwater environment. Players encounter new collectible items like the Windup Inkay and can tackle the Mermaid’s Gym habitat.

Notably, the DLC’s lore content confirms that Pokopia exists in the same universe as Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee, with references to characters including Trace as the Kanto champion and May as another regional champion. Customization options have been expanded with new outfits and hairstyles inspired by gym leaders and trainers from previous Pokémon games, which can be mixed and matched through the game’s mirror interface.

The Dream Islands feature continues in Bubbly Basin with location-specific variants, maintaining the daily exploration system comparable to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. These updates position Pokopia as a continuously evolving title with both free and premium content pathways.
