One of the most controversial anime flops is coming back with a new manga
The Promised Neverland, the horror fantasy manga series by Kaiu Shirai and Posuka Demizu, is making a comeback to Weekly Shonen Jump with new content to mark its 10th anniversary in 2026. A 36-page one-shot chapter will be published in Weekly Shonen Jump issue 39 on August 24, 2026.
The original manga series ran for four years in the magazine between 2016 and 2020, becoming a major bestseller. The story depicts a dark future world where human children are raised in orphanages within demons’ territory, bred as food to maintain peace between the two species—a premise that blends childhood innocence with existential horror.
While the manga achieved significant success, its anime adaptation has become notably controversial among fans, with the series frequently cited as a disappointing translation of the source material. The anniversary celebration and return to the magazine appear designed to reinvigorate interest in the franchise and potentially rehabilitate its reputation within the fanbase.
