Nintendo Switch 2 hardware sales are down 34.4 percent year-on-year

Nintendo’s Switch 2 hardware sales declined 34.4 percent year-on-year in the first quarter ending June 30, 2026, with 3.82 million units sold compared to 5.82 million units during the same period in 2025. This decline follows the console’s highly successful launch in June 2025, when pent-up demand for a new Switch drove exceptional sales figures. Despite this quarter-over-quarter drop, Nintendo maintains that Switch 2 adoption compares favorably with the original Switch at equivalent stages of its lifecycle, and the console has shipped over 23 million units in its first 13 months.

Nintendo’s overall financial performance proved stronger than expected, with operating profit surging 150.5 percent to approximately 142.5 billion yen ($902 million), bolstered by solid software revenue and a $300 million refund from previously collected US tariffs. Following the US Supreme Court’s ruling that the tariffs were unlawful, Nintendo secured the refund but chose not to pass the funds on to consumers, stating it would bear the tariff costs itself rather than implement price reductions.

Platform revenue declined 13.1 percent year-on-year to 483 billion yen during the quarter, primarily due to reduced hardware sales. Nintendo has maintained its full-year sales forecast of 16.5 million Switch 2 units through March 2027, which would represent a 16.9 percent decline from the 19.86 million units sold in fiscal year 2026.
