Review: Black Ops 1+2 Are Lacklustre PS5 and PS4 Ports of Some of the Best Call of Duty Titles
Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 have arrived on PlayStation 4 and PS5, achieving 11 million digital sales within their first month. Originally developed by Treyarch, the ports were handled by Iron Galaxy and fulfill a long-standing demand from players seeking classic Call of Duty titles on modern PlayStation hardware.
However, according to Digital Foundry’s technical review, the ports fail to meet expectations in execution. While the games address a significant gap in PlayStation’s Call of Duty library, the quality of the port work is considered inadequate for titles that represent some of the franchise’s best offerings. The review criticizes the ports for underserving these “nailed-on classics,” suggesting that Call of Duty enthusiasts expected better technical implementation and optimization for current-generation consoles.
