GTA 6 Preorders Are “Unprecedented” Across The Industry, Take-Two Claims
Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick has declared that Grand Theft Auto 6’s preorder numbers are “unprecedented” and “astonishing,” claiming the publisher and broader industry have never witnessed demand of this magnitude. Speaking during an earnings call, Zelnick emphasized the exceptional nature of the preorder response while cautioning that strong preorder performance doesn’t necessarily translate to equivalent sales figures, noting that preorders remain cancellable.
The game is scheduled for release on November 19th across PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Take-Two has opted for a digital-only distribution model, eschewing physical disc versions. The publisher plans to showcase extended gameplay footage through a special feature premiering on Netflix in late August.
While Zelnick refrained from providing specific sales projections or preorder numbers, his enthusiastic language underscores the massive consumer anticipation surrounding the title. The restraint in acknowledging that preorders don’t guarantee sales success suggests Take-Two is managing expectations despite the record-breaking demand. The game’s digital-first approach aligns with industry trends toward online distribution.
