The makers of the glorious Othercide have another tactics RPG bloodbath out in September, with a playtest live now

Lightbulb Crew, the studio behind the acclaimed tactics RPG Othercide, has announced Ex Sanguis, a new tactical game launching in September with a playtest currently available to players.

Ex Sanguis shares considerable visual and mechanical design with Othercide, featuring similar aesthetics built around porcelain-like character designs inhabiting grotesque and surreal battlespaces. However, the new title shifts strategic priorities away from traditional attrition-focused tactics gameplay, instead emphasizing timing, spatial control, and initiative-based mechanics that allow players to act outside conventional turn order.

The game maintains Lightbulb Crew’s signature design philosophy of putting players at a disadvantage and requiring creative problem-solving through careful positioning and planning. It preserves the gothic atmosphere and punishing difficulty curve that defined Othercide while exploring different mechanical frameworks.

With a playtest already live, the studio is allowing players to experience the game’s mechanical refinements before its September launch. This continues Lightbulb Crew’s reputation for creating uniquely styled, challenging tactics RPGs that differentiate themselves from mainstream XCOM-style conventions.
