Charity bundle hosted by Necrosoft Games nears $200,000 goal to support workers affected by layoffs
Necrosoft Games is hosting a charity bundle on Itch.io featuring 127 indie games, with all proceeds supporting workers impacted by recent industry layoffs in the US and Canada. The bundle, priced at a $10 minimum, has raised over $169,000 toward a $200,000 fundraising goal with seven days remaining until the August 13 deadline.
All revenue from the bundle flows directly to a hardship fund established by the United Videogame Workers union (UVW-CWA). The union launched the fund on July 6 to provide direct financial assistance to affected workers. The fund operates through two support tiers: a Small Fund providing up to $1,000 in immediate assistance for basic needs, and a Major Expenses Tier designed to help workers facing larger financial hardships from job displacement.
This charitable initiative reflects growing industry-wide recognition of the impact recent layoffs have had on game developers and support staff. By leveraging the reach of indie game collections on Itch.io, the bundle aims to mobilize community support while demonstrating solidarity with workers facing economic hardship. If the bundle reaches its $200,000 goal within the remaining week, it will represent a significant contribution to the UVW-CWA hardship fund’s mission to support vulnerable workers during an uncertain period in the gaming industry.
