Take-Two boss “not in the least” concerned bad press around Rockstar’s employment tribunal will affect GTA 6 launch

Take-Two Interactive boss Strauss Zelnick has dismissed concerns that ongoing employment tribunal proceedings at subsidiary Rockstar will negatively impact the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6.

The controversy centers on Rockstar North’s decision to terminate 31 employees in Edinburgh, all of whom held membership in the IWGB Game Workers Union. The studio cited “gross misconduct” as the reason for the firings. However, the IWGB Game Workers Union has challenged the dismissals through an employment tribunal, alleging they constitute union-busting—a claim Rockstar disputes.

The employment tribunal battle represents the latest chapter in a growing unionization effort within the gaming industry. Earlier this year, a Rockstar Game Workers Union was established, reflecting broader efforts by workers in the sector to organize for better labor conditions and protections.

Zelnick’s statement comes as he asserts that Take-Two maintains positive labor relations. Despite the reputational challenges posed by the public dispute and tribunal proceedings, the company appears confident that the controversy will not derail the highly anticipated GTA 6 release.
