The Legend of Zelda Movie cast: all confirmed roles and actors
Nintendo and Sony Pictures are developing a live-action film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, scheduled for theatrical release in April 2027. The project marks the first major live-action video game adaptation from Nintendo in over three decades.
Director Wes Ball, known for The Maze Runner and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is helming the production. His appointment signals an emphasis on large-scale visual storytelling and action-driven narratives for the fantasy world of Hyrule.
The adaptation arrives on the heels of successful Mario film releases—The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie—demonstrating Nintendo’s growing confidence in translating its flagship franchises to cinema. The Zelda property offers rich source material, featuring an expansive fantasy world, iconic characters, and puzzle-solving gameplay that could translate effectively to film.
This project represents a significant expansion of Nintendo’s multimedia strategy, leveraging one of its most culturally significant franchises beyond gaming. The April 2027 release date positions the film as a tentpole release in a competitive spring theatrical window.
