Steam reportedly refunds Battlefield 6 player with 470 hours logged after EA quietly pulled Rush mode from Quickplay

A Battlefield 6 player has reportedly received an unexpected full refund from Steam, despite exceeding the platform’s standard refund window by over 200 hours. The player, Reddit user ExplorEverythingOnce, purchased the Phantom Edition for $109.24 but had accumulated approximately 470 hours of gameplay time before securing the refund.

The refund came after Electronic Arts quietly removed Rush mode—a long-standing and popular game mode—from Quickplay in patch 1.4.1.5. The removal occurred without announcement, bundled among minor patch notes, and prompted noticeable player backlash. While Rush mode remains technically available through the game’s Portal feature, its removal from the main Custom Search and Quickplay access points effectively restricted its accessibility for most players.

This refund appears to represent an exception to Steam’s policies, which typically allow refunds only within two hours of purchase. The successful refund suggests that players may have grounds for returns when publishers make significant content changes to live-service titles. Valve’s decision to process the refund indicates the company may recognize content removal as material enough to warrant exceptions to its standard policy.

The incident highlights ongoing tensions around live-service game management and player expectations. While developers maintain the right to iterate on their games’ features, removing established modes without warning can frustrate the community, particularly when players have invested significant time.
