Beast of Reincarnation Has a Difficulty Problem
Beast of Reincarnation, a new action RPG from Game Freak, follows Emma, a skilled hero attempting to save humanity in a harsh, post-apocalyptic wasteland. The game presents players with challenging combat where a single mistake can erase significant progress, creating an intensely difficult experience.
While the game features intricate mechanics explained through opening tutorials, its Normal difficulty setting proves demanding and sometimes confusing for players. To address accessibility concerns, the developers included a “Story” mode—an easier difficulty option designed to make the game more forgiving.
According to Polygon’s coverage, however, the easy mode implementation falls short as a meaningful alternative. The Story setting’s design doesn’t effectively serve players seeking a less punishing experience, suggesting a fundamental mismatch between the difficulty modes’ design philosophy and player needs. This creates an unsatisfying choice: struggle through the complex Normal mode or resort to an easy mode that fails to provide appropriate relief.
The difficulty balance issue highlights a common challenge in game design—bridging the gap between hardcore and casual audiences. Game Freak’s execution appears to have missed the mark, leaving players without an ideal middle ground for enjoying the game’s narrative and world.
