Blizzard Reportedly Leads Xbox as ‘Top-Performing’ Studio Thanks to Overwatch and Diablo
Blizzard Entertainment has emerged as Microsoft’s top-performing Xbox studio for fiscal year 2026, according to leaked internal emails shared by Windows Central. The achievement marks the studio’s third-highest annual revenue in its history.
Blizzard President Johanna Faries celebrated the milestone in a staff email, attributing the success primarily to Overwatch and Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred. Overwatch delivered particularly strong results, posting its strongest quarter since 2022, while also achieving consecutive years of growth for the first time since the game’s release.
The performance is noteworthy given the broader turbulence within Microsoft’s Xbox division, which has undergone significant restructuring through layoffs affecting over 3,000 employees and the spinoff of several acclaimed studios, including Double Fine and Ninja Theory. Against this backdrop, Blizzard’s return to growth and over-delivery on Microsoft’s projections represents a bright spot for the division.
The studio’s success follows its integration into Microsoft through the company’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Operating as a limited-integration entity under Xbox’s ownership, Blizzard has maintained operational independence while contributing substantially to Microsoft’s gaming division revenue. The announcement precedes BlizzCon 2026, where the company is expected to showcase future titles and initiatives.
