Gothic 1 Remake devs hint at next game while announcing a photo mode, “Marvin mode” for cheaters, and some mysterious “alternative progression systems”

THQ Nordic’s Gothic 1 Remake is receiving a suite of new features, according to developer Alkimia Interactive. The update includes a Photo Mode allowing players to capture and share gameplay moments, paired with mysterious “alternative progression mechanics” that suggest new ways to progress through the game.

The studio is also introducing Marvin Mode, which it describes as “the Gothic equivalent of a developer mode.” This feature enables players to spawn creatures and items, teleport across the map, and engage in experimental actions—essentially serving as a comprehensive cheat mode. The name references Marvin the Paranoid Android from Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, a nostalgic nod to the original Gothic, where Marvin Mode functioned as a hidden debug feature.

Additionally, Alkimia is releasing an official mod kit to empower the community in creating and sharing custom content. The announcement includes hints suggesting the developers are already planning future projects beyond the current remake, potentially expanding the Gothic franchise.
