GTA 6 On A Disc Doesn’t Make Sense But Could Happen, Take-Two CEO Says
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will not launch on physical disc, though he hasn’t entirely ruled out the possibility for future consideration. In an interview with IGN, Zelnick explained that physical media “doesn’t really make sense for the consumer,” citing Take-Two’s digital-dominant business model where over 90% of the company’s sales occur through digital channels.
The CEO emphasized that modern games require internet connectivity, making physical discs increasingly obsolete. “Everyone’s connected,” Zelnick stated, arguing that the priority should be finding “the most efficient way to get the title into people’s hands.” GTA 6 will instead be available through retail channels via a code-in-a-box model, allowing consumers to purchase physical copies at stores while still delivering the game digitally.
When asked whether a disc version might eventually be released, Zelnick left the door open, saying “I wouldn’t rule out anything at this stage,” though he provided no indication that such a release is under active consideration. The decision reflects broader industry trends toward digital distribution, which has become standard for major AAA releases.
