Marvel Rivals hits the Ozempic, comes back 40 GB lighter
Marvel Rivals has announced a substantial optimization of its game assets, reducing the PC version’s file size by approximately 40 GB through an “Optimized texture resource compression strategy across all platforms.” The compression update arrives as part of the game’s season 9.5 patch cycle.
According to Marvel Rivals creative director Guangyun Chen, the development team has implemented “a massive texture compression overhaul” designed to maintain visual quality. Chen stated that the team’s “tech wizards have been hard at work forging solutions,” emphasizing that the optimization achieves the file size reduction “without sacrificing a single pixel of visual fidelity.”
The update represents a significant quality-of-life improvement for players, particularly on PC where storage space and download times are practical considerations. The 40 GB reduction makes the game substantially more accessible to players with limited storage capacity and reduces installation time for those on slower internet connections.
The texture compression initiative demonstrates ongoing efforts by the development team to balance visual quality with technical efficiency. As live-service games continue to expand in scope and graphical detail, optimization work like this becomes increasingly important for maintaining reasonable file sizes while supporting performance across different hardware configurations.
While the optimization was confirmed to apply across all platforms where Marvel Rivals is available, the specific 40 GB reduction figure cited pertains to the PC version.
