Atlus Producer Says ‘I Think We Have to Do’ Persona 1 and 2 Remakes
Kazuhisa Wada, producer of P-Studio at Atlus, has indicated that remakes of Persona 1 and 2 are likely future projects for the studio. While he stopped short of confirming the remakes are currently in development, Wada stated he believes they are games the studio “have to” remake.
This comes as Atlus is focused on remaking and remastering entries in the Persona franchise. Persona 3 Reload launched over two years ago, and Persona 4 Revival is set to launch in early 2027. Combined with the already-substantial Persona 5 catalog, this means the three most recent mainline entries will have modern versions available to players.
However, the original Persona games from the PS1 era—Persona 1 and Persona 2—have been largely neglected by Atlus and continue to age. With modern remakes becoming standard for the franchise, the contrast between the updated versions of entries 3–5 and the aging first two games has become more stark.
While Wada’s comments suggest remakes of Persona 1 and 2 are inevitable, he emphasized he “can’t say for sure” they’re currently in production. His language—that these are games “we have to do”—implies they are recognized as necessary projects within the studio’s pipeline, but likely not imminent priorities given the current focus on Persona 4 Revival and development of Persona 6.
