SanDisk Announces Three New Expansion Cards For Xbox Series X|S
SanDisk has entered the Xbox Expansion Card market with three new storage options for Xbox Series X|S consoles. The SanDisk Optimus GX C50 Storage Expansion Cards will be available in 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities, with the 2TB model priced at $340.
This marks SanDisk as the third manufacturer to enter the Xbox expansion storage space. Seagate initially launched expansion cards when Xbox introduced the accessory category in 2020, followed by WD Black, which released its own 2TB option in late 2024. The continued product releases from multiple manufacturers demonstrate sustained market interest in addressing Xbox Series X|S storage constraints.
Xbox Series X|S players have faced significant storage limitations since launch, with the consoles’ onboard capacity insufficient for many modern games. Expansion cards have become an essential accessory for console owners maintaining larger game libraries without constant uninstallation cycles.
The introduction of multiple third-party options provides Xbox players greater flexibility in choosing expansion storage solutions, with potential variations in pricing and performance characteristics. With three major manufacturers now competing in this space, the market appears sufficiently mature to support diverse offerings. The trend suggests that storage expansion cards will remain a standard accessory category for current-generation Xbox consoles throughout their lifecycle.
