Sonic the Hedgehog is Joining Fortnite, and Yes You’ll Be Able to Dash Up Walls in the Green Hill Zone

Sonic the Hedgehog is joining Fortnite as part of the battle royale’s upcoming Chapter 7 Season 4, titled Override, which centers on gaming legends and classic video game franchises. The official confirmation came via the Sonic the Hedgehog social media account on August 10, 2026, featuring gameplay footage showing a Green Hill Zone-themed area with Sonic movement mechanics, including the ability to dash and collect rings.

The Override season represents a major collaboration event featuring iconic gaming franchises beyond Sonic, including Tetris, Persona, Kingdom Hearts, Mega Man, Pac-Man, and Crash Bandicoot. Players can expect themed locations and cosmetics inspired by these gaming classics. The teaser footage showed character models moving Sonic-style through the iconic loop-de-loops and landscapes of Green Hill Zone, suggesting that a new movement item or mechanic will grant players super-speed abilities.

The seasonal transition kicks off with a Story Event scheduled for August 15-16, 2026 (dates vary by timezone), which will reveal more details about the crossovers and seasonal changes. Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 officially launches on August 20, 2026. This collaboration continues Fortnite’s trend of major crossover events with established entertainment and gaming franchises.
