Brand New Day Is Giving Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Its Biggest Sales Boost In Years

The box office success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has created a significant surge in sales for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, demonstrating the power of cross-media synergy in the entertainment industry. The film, which crossed $1.6 billion at the global box office, has driven renewed interest in the three-year-old PlayStation exclusive.

According to sales data from Alinea Analytics, Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 has sold an additional 316,000 copies since Brand New Day’s theatrical launch, generating approximately $11 million in revenue across PlayStation 5 and Steam. Of these sales, 20% were physical copies, while 274,000 players accessed the game through PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers. The player engagement spike has been substantial, with the game achieving 1 million daily active users last weekend for the first time since its original launch week—representing a 2.6x increase from pre-film engagement levels.

The timing has been aided by a well-coordinated content update that introduced two new Spider-Man suits to the game, capitalizing on the film’s promotional momentum. With these latest sales figures, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has now reached 18.2 million total units sold, with 92% of those coming from PlayStation 5 players. The game has generated over $1.2 billion in lifetime revenue since its 2023 launch, underscoring Sony’s successful strategy of leveraging its film division to boost video game sales.
