Square Enix Operating Income Rises by 88% In Latest Earnings

Square Enix has reported exceptionally strong financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027 (ending June 2026), with operating income surging 88.6% year-over-year to ¥17,008 million and net sales increasing 32.3%. The company’s Digital Entertainment sector, encompassing video games, drove the majority of growth with a 91.8% operating profit increase and 51.8% revenue surge.

The strong performance was primarily fueled by two major releases: Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth’s expansion to additional platforms and a new expansion for the long-running MMO Final Fantasy 14. The company’s mobile business also contributed positively to the results. This marks a significant turning point for Square Enix, as the diversification of revenue streams reduces Final Fantasy 14’s historical role as the company’s primary profit engine.

With other titles now contributing meaningfully to the bottom line, Square Enix has achieved a more stable financial foundation across its gaming portfolio. The results are particularly notable given the challenging state of the broader video game industry, demonstrating both the continued popularity of the company’s flagship franchises and the effectiveness of its multi-platform release strategy.
