Crimson Desert Dev Conducting ‘Extensive Research’ on Multiplayer Modes, Plots Potential Sequels
Pearl Abyss has unveiled an ambitious post-launch strategy for its hit action RPG Crimson Desert, which has become one of 2026’s biggest games. The South Korean publisher confirmed the game generated approximately $178.8 million in revenue within its first two weeks following its March 2026 launch, with over 6 million copies sold within three months. The majority of sales—more than 80%—came from North America and Europe.
The company is pursuing several expansion initiatives for Crimson Desert. Pearl Abyss is conducting extensive research into multiplayer modes and discussing potential sequel possibilities. Additionally, the publisher is targeting its first DLC release within 2026, though specific details remain limited.
In platform expansion news, the Crimson Desert Switch 2 port has reached a playable state, with Pearl Abyss targeting a release in the first half of 2027.
Beyond Crimson Desert, Pearl Abyss outlined development progress on other projects. DokeV, an action game often compared to Pokémon and Palworld, is progressing smoothly with a planned 2028 launch in the second half of the year. The publisher credited its experience developing Crimson Desert for accelerating DokeV’s technical advancement. Plan 8, another title in active development, is also moving forward.
