Ewan McGregor Wants to Spend the ‘Rest of His Career’ Playing Obi-Wan Kenobi

Ewan McGregor has expressed strong enthusiasm about continuing to portray Obi-Wan Kenobi in future Star Wars projects, indicating he envisions approximately a decade of untold stories remaining for the Jedi master. In recent comments to E! News, McGregor reaffirmed his eagerness to return to the role, stating he is ready to commit to additional projects exploring the character.

However, McGregor acknowledged a significant gap between his interests and Disney’s current plans. “I’m ready whenever they are,” he said. “They just seem to not be ready, but I’m up for it.” This suggests the studio has not prioritized new Obi-Wan projects despite the actor’s willingness to continue.

McGregor’s comments reference the conclusion of the Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series, which ended with his character departing into the desert following a crucial decision about Luke Skywalker’s upbringing. According to McGregor, the character chose to step back from directly involving himself in Luke’s life, allowing the young Skywalker to experience his own childhood while being raised by his aunt and uncle, Owen and Beru Lars.

These remarks suggest potential future narratives could explore Obi-Wan’s adventures during the years between the prequel films and the original trilogy—a narrative period with substantial storytelling potential. McGregor’s demonstrated commitment to multiple projects indicates strong personal investment in the character and his conviction that more compelling stories remain to be told in this era of Star Wars.
