Is this Microsoft’s canceled Surface Phone from 2014? Mysterious Windows Phone prototype appears in new photos

Microsoft’s mysterious canceled Surface Phone from 2013-2014 has surfaced in newly published prototype images. Before the company acquired Nokia, Microsoft was rumored to be developing its own in-house Windows Phone device intended to launch alongside the Surface Pro under the Surface brand. The device apparently never progressed beyond the prototype stage.

The prototype, possibly codenamed “Raven,” runs an early pre-release build of Windows Phone 8.1 and features an unknown Qualcomm processor with a 720p display. While details remain sparse, the leaked images offer a rare glimpse into Microsoft’s internal smartphone exploration during a critical period for the company’s mobile ambitions.

The Surface Phone project represents one of Microsoft’s abandoned attempts to compete in the smartphone market, which ultimately culminated in Windows Phone’s discontinuation. The emergence of these prototype images provides historical insight into the hardware designs Microsoft was considering before shifting its mobile strategy following the Nokia acquisition.
