Mortal Kombat 3 Isn’t Off The Table, But Its Director Is Busy With A Very Different Movie

Simon McQuoid, director of the recent Mortal Kombat film duology, has indicated that a third installment remains uncertain due to his focus on other projects. When asked about the possibility of Mortal Kombat 3, McQuoid offered a non-committal response, stating “I don’t know yet. I’m not sure,” while expressing openness to the idea if circumstances align.

McQuoid revealed that he has multiple projects currently in development and expressed a desire to explore storytelling opportunities beyond the Mortal Kombat franchise. The director suggested he wants to tell different stories that extend beyond the fighting game universe, indicating his creative interests may be pulling him in other directions.

While the door remains open for a potential trilogy, the likelihood of a third Mortal Kombat film appears dependent on McQuoid’s other commitments and whether he chooses to return to the franchise. The films have been praised for successfully adapting the bloody, action-heavy nature of the video game series to the big screen, but their future continuation now hinges on the director’s availability and interest.
