CoD: Modern Warfare 4 Beta May Include A New Warzone Map

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s first beta is launching next week, but the real surprise may be what’s coming alongside it. Official hints suggest the beta could include a new Warzone Resurgence map, marking a remarkable milestone: the first beta test for Warzone, six years after the battle royale’s 2020 debut.

The codename for the new map is “Zodiac.” When players questioned when this map would be announced, the official Call of Duty account responded cryptically with “Find out in….beta?"—suggesting the Warzone content could be revealed during the MW4 beta period.

The inclusion of a Warzone map in the beta would be highly unusual, as Call of Duty betas traditionally feature only multiplayer content. It’s also notable that Warzone, which has been in live service since 2020, is only now potentially receiving its first official beta test. The original Verdansk map dominated the battle royale landscape from 2020 to 2022, competing with Fortnite and Apex Legends during what many consider Warzone’s peak. While the game has faced challenges in recent years as part of the broader live-service ecosystem, the inclusion of fresh content alongside MW4 suggests Activision is investing in revitalizing the franchise.

The MW4 beta will give players an early look at multiplayer maps like the newly revealed Kill Block, but if Warzone Resurgence makes an appearance, it could signal the company’s commitment to supporting both the new mainline release and its long-running battle royale component simultaneously.
