HBO’s Harry Potter Casts Nicholas Hoult as Gilderoy Lockhart in Season 2
Actor Nicholas Hoult has been cast as Gilderoy Lockhart in Season 2 of HBO’s Harry Potter series, which will adapt J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Hoult, known for roles in the X-Men film franchise and as Lex Luthor in the DC Universe, takes on the character previously portrayed by Kenneth Branagh in the original Harry Potter films. Season 2 is set to begin filming in fall 2026. Lockhart, the vain and fraudulent Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, is a memorable antagonist in the second book of the series. Hoult’s casting continues HBO’s effort to build out the ensemble cast for its new theatrical adaptation of the wizarding world.
