Phantom Blade Zero State of Play Set for August with Gameplay Deep Dive
S-Game has announced a dedicated State of Play presentation for Phantom Blade Zero scheduled for August 17 at 7:00pm PT, which will provide an in-depth showcase of the game’s core combat systems and story details. The presentation will introduce never-before-seen characters central to the game’s narrative while demonstrating how expressive players can be with their character builds.
In conjunction with the announcement, S-Game revealed that legendary Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen has been involved with the game’s development since 2023, bringing his 40+ years of martial arts experience to shape the game’s combat design. Yen appears in the game as Mó Yuan, the father of the protagonist Soul, lending both his likeness and voice to the role. This involvement goes beyond typical celebrity voice acting—Yen has been actively guiding the game’s “kungfupunk” combat aesthetic throughout development, ensuring the action sequences reflect authentic martial arts choreography.
The announcement coincides with pre-orders going live for Phantom Blade Zero. The game previously garnered attention at June’s PlayStation State of Play with a teaser trailer featuring a masked swordsman character, which has now been revealed to showcase Yen’s character. The late 7pm PT presentation time reflects S-Game’s location in China, accommodating the developer’s time zone while still targeting Western audiences.
