SteamOS Now Supports MSI and OneXPlayer PC Handhelds, Fixes Post-Sleep CPU Performance Drop Bug
Valve has released SteamOS 3.8.25 in beta, expanding the operating system’s compatibility beyond Steam Deck to include third-party gaming handhelds. The update brings support for MSI Claw, OneXPlayer, Ayaneo Pocket S, Konkr Fit, and other device variants, with initial controller support for the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ and other handhelds. This marks a significant step in positioning SteamOS as a universal gaming OS for portable devices beyond Valve’s own hardware.
The update also addresses a long-standing performance issue that affected early adopters: a CPU performance degradation bug that occurred after devices woke from sleep mode. Previously, users had to perform a full system reboot to restore normal performance. This fix resolves one of the platform’s notable stability issues and should improve the user experience for handheld gamers.
The beta release demonstrates Valve’s commitment to making SteamOS a flexible platform option for the portable gaming market, potentially expanding its ecosystem beyond first-party hardware.
