Voidwood, a Fantasy Co-Op Survival Horror Game, Announced for PC
Santa Barbara Games, a newly-formed studio comprising veteran developers from Bethesda, Riot, EA, and other major publishers, has announced its first title: Voidwood, a 1-4 player fantasy co-op survival horror game with a distinctive Studio Ghibli-inspired art style.
In Voidwood, players take on the roles of children lost in a cursed forest. The core gameplay revolves around survival across day-night cycles—during the day, players scavenge for resources and craft tools needed to survive the coming night. When darkness falls, The Beast, an unkillable monstrous force, is unleashed, forcing players into survival mode.
Communication and stealth play crucial roles in the experience. Players use proximity chat to coordinate, with whispering allowing quiet communication while shouting risks attracting The Beast’s attention. A notable mechanic introduces social tension through sacrifice options: players can attempt to secure escape for three teammates at the expense of the fourth player, creating interesting multiplayer dynamics beyond traditional co-op gameplay.
