Immortality creator Sam Barlow’s new video-scouring game is sci-fi horror Precognition, a collab with filmmaker Brandon Cronenberg, in which you see and change the future

Sam Barlow, the creator of narrative-driven games Her Story and Immortality, has announced Precognition, a new sci-fi horror game developed by his studio Half Mermaid Productions in collaboration with filmmaker Brandon Cronenberg. The game features writing from Cronenberg, known for directing films such as Possessor and Infinity Pool.

Precognition continues Barlow’s signature approach of exploring mysteries through non-linear full-motion video (FMV) storytelling. The game centers on Diana, a woman who receives an experimental brain implant enabling her to see visions of the future. Rather than treating precognition as a pure advantage, the game explores a darker premise: players must explore these future visions and selectively commit specific moments to Diana’s memory in the present, with the potential to alter what lies ahead. The concept draws inspiration from narrative structures like the film Memento, creating a puzzle-like experience where understanding and manipulating the sequence of events becomes central to the story.

Kinetic Publishing, the label behind the horror game Phasmophobia, is handling publication for Precognition. The collaboration between Barlow and Cronenberg, originally teased as “Project C” in 2024, represents an ambitious crossover between interactive media and filmmaking talent. The game is scheduled to release in Spring 2028 and will be available on Switch 2.
