Control Resonant Has No Parry Mechanic And I Don’t Know How To Feel About That
Control Resonant, the upcoming action-RPG sequel from Remedy Entertainment, will not feature a parry mechanic despite the satisfying defensive counter-play common in action games. Game director Mikael Kasurinen confirmed to IGN that players won’t be able to deflect attacks in the follow-up to Control, representing a deliberate design choice by the studio.
Remedy Entertainment experimented with including the parry mechanic during development but ultimately determined it didn’t align with their vision for the game. The studio prioritizes fast-paced, aggressive gameplay that encourages players to chase down enemies rather than rely on defensive techniques. This design philosophy shifts how Resonant approaches combat compared to traditional action-RPGs that emphasize parry systems as core defensive tools.
The decision reflects Remedy’s commitment to creating a distinct combat experience for the sequel. By removing the parry option, the developers push players toward offensive engagement and tactical positioning rather than the reaction-based gameplay that parrying typically requires. This approach aims to differentiate Control Resonant’s combat within the action-RPG genre, requiring players to adopt different tactical considerations and playstyles compared to similar titles.
