Crimson Desert on Switch 2: Developer Finally Confirms Release Window
Crimson Desert, the action-RPG released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in March 2026, will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in the first half of 2027, developer Pearl Abyss has confirmed. The port has reached a “playable baseline” according to the company’s latest earnings letter, with Pearl Abyss currently conducting technical reviews to optimize performance and ensure compliance with quality standards.
The rapid turnaround—less than a year from the original launch—represents Pearl Abyss’s commitment to bringing the ambitious open-world title to Nintendo’s hybrid console. The game has already proven a commercial success, selling over 5 million copies across its initial platforms since launch.
In its Q2 2026 financial results, Pearl Abyss noted that while Crimson Desert’s launch period boost has subsided, the company continues to invest in the title’s future. Beyond the Switch 2 port, Pearl Abyss has indicated “significant potential” for multiplayer features in the currently single-player game, mentioning plans around “live service operation models.” This suggests the developer may expand Crimson Desert beyond its original scope with ongoing content and competitive elements.
Pearl Abyss’s Q2 earnings reflected the natural decline following a blockbuster launch—operating revenue fell 41.4% to ₩192.6 billion and operating profit dropped 68.1% to ₩67.6 billion compared to Q1. However, the strong sales performance and continued expansion plans indicate Pearl Abyss views Crimson Desert as a long-term franchise opportunity.
The Switch 2 port addresses questions about whether Nintendo’s hardware could handle the game’s technically demanding open world. The coming port will be watched closely as a test case for how demanding console experiences perform on Nintendo’s hybrid platform.
