The Voice of The Witcher’s Geralt Says He’d Sue Every Single AI Platform With His Voice on It ‘Into the Ground’ if He Could
Doug Cockle, the voice actor for Geralt in The Witcher, has publicly expressed strong opposition to AI platforms that have replicated his voice without authorization. In an interview with Polygon, Cockle described the situation as ’the bugbear of my life,’ highlighting his deep frustration with the emerging technology.
Cockle’s primary concerns center on the potential misuse of his voice and likeness. He fears that AI could generate content in which Geralt expresses deeply offensive views—including racism, misogyny, and extreme political positions—while misleading audiences into believing Cockle provided the voice. This dual threat damages both his personal reputation and the integrity of the character.
Frustrated by the current lack of legal recourse, Cockle stated emphatically that if he possessed sufficient power, money, and influence, he would ‘sue every single AI platform out there with my voice on it. I would sue them into the ground.’ His statement underscores a growing industry concern: as AI voice-cloning technology becomes increasingly sophisticated, voice actors face unprecedented challenges protecting their likenesses from unauthorized replication and misuse, highlighting the urgent need for stronger legal frameworks around voice actor intellectual property rights.
