Out of nowhere, Sony confirms that 2024 breakout hit Helldivers 2 joins PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium today

Helldivers 2, the acclaimed 2024 co-op shooter from Arrowhead Studios, has joined PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium starting August 12, 2026, providing millions of subscribers immediate access to the title at no additional cost. The game, which has achieved 20 million sales and holds the record for fastest-selling PlayStation Studios release, arrives on the service alongside its latest major expansion, Devoid of Liberty, which sends players into the haunted depths of the Void to destroy Illuminate spires and gateways. The surprise rollout includes a time-limited community challenge asking players to collectively eliminate 500 million enemies by August 18 to unlock four exclusive Helldiver-themed PlayStation avatars. The announcement coincides with the launch of a Warhammer 40,000 crossover Warbond, bringing fresh licensed content to the ongoing live-service experience. Sony Interactive Entertainment anticipates a significant influx of new players from the subscription service, bolstering the title’s already thriving playerbase. The game remains exclusive to PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers, with Essential-tier subscribers excluded from the offering.
