Twitch Now Trains Amazon’s Generative AI Models on Your Channel by Default
Twitch has activated a new feature by default that allows Amazon to use streamer channel content to train generative AI models. The setting, titled “Allow your channel content to train generative AI content models at Amazon,” appears in user account settings and is enabled by default. Streamers can opt out by navigating to Security and Privacy settings and unchecking the “Training for Generative AI” toggle.
However, the opt-out provides limited protection. According to Twitch’s privacy policy, disabling AI training does not prevent Amazon from using channel content for other purposes, including AI-supported Twitch features designed to facilitate streamer growth and monetization. This gap in control has become a central point of community criticism.
The rollout has triggered widespread backlash from streamers and the gaming community. Social media responses have been predominantly negative, with users expressing frustration about the default opt-in approach. Twitch’s Chief Product Officer addressed the criticism, reportedly stating that “if it was opt-in, nobody would opt in.” This admission that the company deliberately chose a default setting it knew users would reject has intensified accusations of prioritizing corporate interests over creator consent. The controversy highlights ongoing tension between platform monetization strategies and content creator autonomy.
