Mo Co is underperforming and will be rebooted (again) – but Supercell says killing it is “unlikely”

Supercell’s monster hunting game Mo Co faces an uncertain future after a recent reboot failed to meet performance expectations. The Finnish developer revealed that the relaunched title is “not performing as well as we hoped,” just three months into its comeback attempt.

The primary challenge stems from a gameplay loop that quickly becomes stale for most players, resulting in high drop-off rates. However, the studio noted a silver lining: players who continue engaging with Mo Co demonstrate unusually high average session times, suggesting the game has found a dedicated niche audience but lacks the broader appeal required for scaling.

Despite the disappointing results, Supercell indicated that completely shutting down Mo Co remains unlikely, characterizing such a move as an “unlikely scenario.” Instead, the developer plans to implement further changes to the game in an effort to improve retention and expand its player base beyond the current niche market.

This marks another significant pivot for Mo Co, which has already undergone substantial changes in recent months. The game’s struggle highlights broader challenges facing live-service titles, particularly in balancing the need to retain core audiences while attracting new players to ensure long-term viability.
