You have fewer than 200 days to migrate all your old Pokémon from Pokémon Bank to Pokémon Home, or they’re gone forever
The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon Bank, the long-running storage and transfer service for Nintendo 3DS, will shut down on February 26-27, 2027. Originally launched in Japan in 2013 and globally in 2014, the app served as a hub for storing and transferring Pokémon across various 3DS titles including Black & White, X & Y, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, and Sun & Moon.
The closure marks a significant milestone, effectively ending the 3DS era of Pokémon. While the 3DS eShop was already delisted in March 2023—preventing new downloads of Pokémon Bank—the service continued to operate freely for existing users. Now, players who have Pokémon stored in the service must migrate them to Pokémon Home, the successor platform available on Switch, iOS, and Android, before the shutdown deadline.
The announcement comes with an additional update: FireRed and LeafGreen, classic Pokémon titles, will be added to Pokémon Home, giving players another avenue to access and preserve their collections.
The Pokémon Company has advised users to act promptly, as any Pokémon remaining in Bank after February 27, 2027 will be permanently inaccessible. While players technically have several months to complete the migration, the announcement has sparked nostalgia among longtime fans who used Bank to preserve rare Pokémon from earlier generations.
